If you’ve ever dealt with constant flakes, redness, or itching on your scalp and felt like no shampoo or oil could calm it down—you’re not alone. And you’re not “just dirty,” dramatic, or sensitive.
What you might be dealing with is seborrheic dermatitis—and it’s time we talk about what’s really going on beneath the surface.
What Is Seborrheic Dermatitis?
Seborrheic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that shows up as flaky, greasy scales—often on the scalp, face, or even chest. It’s commonly misdiagnosed as simple dandruff, but it goes much deeper.
The most common culprit is an overgrowth of malassezia, a yeast that lives naturally on the skin. When the body’s internal systems are out of balance, that yeast can thrive—leading to inflammation and excessive flaking.

But here’s the truth that many overlook:
It’s not just a scalp issue—it’s a gut, stress, and immune issue.
The Root Causes (Physical + Emotional)
Seborrheic dermatitis doesn’t just show up randomly. It’s often the result of a combination of internal imbalances.
PHYSICAL ROOTS:
Disrupted gut health or leaky gut
Hormonal shifts or adrenal fatigue
Overactive sebaceous (oil) glands
Use of irritating or overly harsh haircare products
Nutritional deficiencies, especially zinc and B vitamins
EMOTIONAL ROOTS:
Chronic stress and burnout
Unprocessed emotional trauma
Nervous system dysregulation
Suppressed anger or grief that has no outlet
The body screaming “slow down” through physical symptoms
The body and spirit are deeply connected—when one suffers, the other often shows the signs.

Holistic Healing Is Possible
You don’t need to suffer in silence or keep covering it up with oils and temporary relief.
Here’s how I approach seborrheic dermatitis with my clients:
1. Scalp Therapy Rituals:
We detox, balance the scalp microbiome, calm inflammation, and restore moisture with holistic scalp therapy sessions that are customized to your skin + energy needs.
2. Gut Health Reset:
Flare-ups often improve drastically when we focus on nourishing the gut: adding probiotics, removing triggers, and supporting digestion.
3. Emotional Healing:
Breathwork. Journaling. Reiki. Energy hygiene.
Your nervous system matters just as much as your skincare. Inner peace reflects outward.
4. Product Detox:
We swap out pore-clogging, fragrance-heavy products with clean, soothing ingredients that actually support your scalp’s healing—not fight it.
